South Lanarkshire Council Conservative Group Secures Key Budget Wins for 2025-2026

The South Lanarkshire Council Conservative Group has supported the 2025-2026 budget, recognising the importance of working collaboratively for the benefit of residents. As an integral part of the council's working group, the Conservative Group has ensured that the budget delivers key priorities while maintaining financial responsibility.

Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group, Councillor Richard Nelson, emphasised the Group’s commitment to constructive politics, stating:

“Rather than playing political games, we are here to work for the people of South Lanarkshire and focus on what truly matters to them. Thanks to our direct involvement in budget discussions, Larkhall will now have a leisure centre that is fit for purpose, including the much-needed games hall that the community has long called for. This was only possible due to the additional funding secured by the Conservative Group.”

Councillor Alex Allison further highlighted the Conservative Group’s firm stance on minimising council tax increases and protecting essential services:

“We remained steadfast in ensuring a low council tax rise, ultimately securing a 6% increase—the lowest in Scotland—while keeping service reductions to a minimum. Our Group played a crucial role in tipping the balance on this vote, using our influence to ensure a fair outcome for residents.”

In addition to securing a lower council tax increase, the Conservative Group has successfully reinstated critical funding for South Lanarkshire’s road network, securing funding to address long-overdue improvements.

Councillor Allison also stated:

“The Conservative Group was the only party fighting for this funding, and we have delivered. Our roads are in dire need of investment, and this budget ensures that communities across South Lanarkshire will see meaningful improvements to infrastructure.”

Another key Conservative-led initiative included securing extra funding to tackle fly-tipping, a persistent issue affecting communities across the region. The additional resources will support clean-up efforts and preventive measures, demonstrating the Group’s commitment to protecting local environments.

Looking ahead, the Conservative Group remains committed to responsible governance and will continue to push for further funding to support essential services and infrastructure improvements.

With the decisive influence to tip votes, the Conservative Group has used its position to secure real benefits for South Lanarkshire’s residents while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
